Sample Answer

To the best of my memory, after the whole country was in the COVID-19 quarantine period, maybe around a year ago, I had a thirst for adventure, so I asked my two close friends to join my trip to Ha Long. Since we all had stable jobs, we were able to stretch the budget to decent accommodation, which drove us to book a triple room in a 4-star hotel and we took a train to get there.

I would say the services in this hotel were splendid. When the bellman spotted us at the revolving door, he immediately came and helped us with the luggage. He carefully instructed us on how to get to our room and noted the hotel’s hotline in case of emergency. Taking a look at our place, we were all astonished by the sea view that the room provided.

One of the things that I loved most about this hotel was the amenities. The dental kits were sufficient for three of us, and the bristles of the toothbrushes were super soft. What’s more, complimentary meals, including breakfast and dinner, were available as the cost for our stay was not low at all. The seafood was so moreish that we even ordered several more dishes.

After the trip, we didn’t say thanks directly to the employees, but we left a few positive reviews on the Internet so that other tourists could come there. If I have the chance to come back to Ha Long, I have no hesitation in visiting this place.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Hotel

1. What can influence people’s choices of hotels?

From my point of view, there are three options that affect people’s decision when choosing a hotel. The prior concern of travelers is mostly about the price. Some people only want mediocre accommodation with a clean room and adequate wifi connection, but some would prefer a grand place.

Another point that I would like to mention is the location of the hotel, whether the place is near the tourists’ destinations in the trip. Being in a close proximity of traveling places, people can minimize the commuting cost and can spend their money on other activities like food or festivals.

2. How do people reserve hotel rooms?

In most cases, whether people book hotel rooms online or in person, they would need to deposit for their reservation. Usually, the down payment is around 20 to 30% of the total price. And before a week of the travelers’ stay, they often have to pay the full cost or the booking will be canceled.

3. What is the difference between the hotels in your country and those abroad?

One aspect that should be taken into consideration is the outfit of the receptionists. I don’t see many discrepancies in male employees as they all wear a jacket outside of a shirt, a tie on their neck, and classical trousers. However, the female receptionists in Vietnam are likely to dress in ao dai, which is the traditional costume of our nation while the staff in other countries also choose formal dresses just like their male counterparts.
