IELTS Speaking Part 3: Concentrate

Topic : Concentrate

1. Is it important for kids to concentrate?

I think this is a very important skill for kids to acquire. Schools usually demand that students concentrate for long stretches of time, and as kids get older, they have extracurricular activities after school that require even more concentration. Therefore, the ability to concentrate and sustain attention on all kinds of tasks is crucially important, because it helps kids learn and improve, which leads to self-confidence and positive self-esteem.

2. How can employers make their employees concentrate on their work?

If a company tries to get their employees to focus, consider allowing them to work on their own schedules. This is because some people work best in the early morning, while other people can crank out work into the late hours of the night. In addition, employees need to be able to set up an environment where they can focus. Therefore, employers should give them the opportunity to bring in personal items and decorate their desks, which can contribute to their productivity.

3. What kinds of jobs need higher levels of concentration?

There are a lot of occupations that I can think of, especially the ones that require more focus and attention to details. However, if I have to choose one, I would say accountants whose main goal is to ensure the accuracy of financial records. In other words, their job is centred around details, mostly having to do with maths. They meet with clients, make sure tax documents are correct, and have training in evaluating the financial operations of an organisation.

4. Why is it hard for some people to concentrate?

The painful truth is focusing on a task is hard work. It demands mental and, in some cases, physical strength, while most people don’t like this discomfort. It’s simply easier to give into a distraction. That’s why they might have trouble focusing from time to time. But if it happens often, you may wonder why you can’t stay on task. Lots of things, like everyday habits, can affect your ability to concentrate. In some cases, a health issue may be the cause.

5. Can technology help you concentrate?

Technology does not have to be a distraction: there are plenty of devices which can help you focus by acting directly on your brain or your surroundings. For example, you can use a timer on your phone to help keep track of time and to make sure you stick to the timetable you created. Setting a timer helps to keep you focused on the task at hand, committed to working until the timer goes off, and helps keep you on track to cover all the material you need to. Furthermore, some people usually wear the headphone and listen to music so that they can pay full attention to their study or work.

6. Do you need to concentrate when you do sports?

Yes, because focus and attention to detail during a workout is the key to getting better and making long term progress. The more intently you are able to focus, or be mindful of the small details of the exercises as well as the details of the program, the more you will be able to build success. Focusing on your body and intentionally working on a skill will not only improve the quality of movement and exercise, but it will also help you let go of all the problems you might be dealing with during the day.
