Table #10 : The number of visitors in the UK and their average spending from 2003 to 2008

The table below shows the number of visitors in the UK and their average spending from 2003 to 2008.

Sample Answer 1 :

The table gives information about the number of people who visited the UK from 2003 to 2008, as well as the average duration of their stay and amount of money they spent whilst there.

Overall, the figures for all statistics grew over the time period, except for the average duration of stay which declined slightly.

In 2003, the UK received approximately 24.7 million visitors who spent around £11.9 billion. The number of visitors continued to rise each year until peaking at approximately 32.8 million in 2007, and dropping slightly to approximately 31.9 million in 2008. The amount of money spent also rose most years, peaking at £16.3 billion in 2008.

The average duration that visitors stayed in 2003 was 8.2 nights, while they spent an average of £475 per visit. The average number of nights per visit rose slightly until 2006, before declining to an average of 7.7 nights in 2007 and 2008. The average amount of money spent per visit tended to fluctuate each year, but peaked in 2008 at £511.

In the year 2003, 24.7 million visitors chose the UK as their destination, and spent approximately 11.855 billion pounds. The number of holidaymakers increased each year until reaching a peak of 32.778 billion in 2007, declining slightly to roughly 31.88 billion in 2008. The amount of money they spent also witnessed a significant growth, peaking at about 16.3 billion at the end of the period.

The average duration per visit  was 8.2 nights in 2008, while 475 pounds was the amount of money an average traveller spent. The average duration per visit climbed slightly until reaching its highest point of 8.4 nights in 2006. Meanwhile, there was a fluctuation in the amount of money spent per visit, with 511 pounds being the highest level of expenditure in 2008.
