The maps below illustrate the current layout of Huntingdon and the proposed changes for the future.
Overall, the town is set to undergo a range of significant alterations, the most notable of which include the development of traffic infrastructure and the construction of an industrial zone.
At present, Huntingdon town centre is surrounded by a ring road that separates it from the built-up area, which consists of homes, shops, and other facilities. The ring road is connected to the A1 highway via Brampton Road, which runs east-west. The A14 highway is currently accessible only through a roundabout on the A1, located near the airfield to the north. Additionally, a railway line runs from the south through the built-up area and heads northeast, with a railway station located just south of the Brampton Road underpass.
In the future, the town centre and surrounding built-up area will remain unchanged. However, the most significant development will be the addition of a roundabout at the junction of Brampton Road and the A14, improving access to the railway station. The southeastern section of the A14 will also be rerouted to directly connect with both the ring road and the A1, although this will reduce direct access to the new roundabout. Finally, a major change will occur in the northwest, where the airfield will be replaced by an industrial zone, with two additional railway lines linking to the existing main railway line.
