Writing Task 2: Topic Global Fashion Trends

Cambridge 20 Test 4: Topic: Global Fashion Trends

Many aspects of the way people dress today are influenced by global fashion trends. How has global fashion become such a strong influence on people’s lives?

Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Sample Answer:

Global fashion trends have become increasingly influential in shaping how people dress, particularly with the rise of social media and celebrity culture. In my view, while there are certain drawbacks, the overall influence is largely positive.

The spread of fashion across borders is primarily driven by technology. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok expose users to global styles instantly, making it easy for individuals to follow the latest trends regardless of their location. Moreover, celebrities and influencers act as fashion role models, generating worldwide demand for specific clothing items and brands.

This influence can be considered beneficial. It gives people the freedom to experiment with different styles and express their individuality. Fashion also connects people from diverse cultures, fostering a sense of shared identity. In addition, global trends have stimulated the creative industries, creating jobs and encouraging innovation.

On the downside, the pressure to keep up with trends can undermine originality. Fast fashion also raises ethical concerns due to its environmental impact and labor exploitation. Nevertheless, growing awareness of sustainable fashion is motivating consumers to make more responsible choices.

In conclusion, global fashion has emerged as a powerful cultural force. Despite some negative aspects, it encourages creativity, self-expression, and cross-cultural connection. With a more conscious approach, its influence can remain both inspiring and sustainable.
