Sample Answer

Let me tell you about an occasion when I was given a gift for my birthday.

It was a pretty thick book named: “A Brief History of Humankind” written by Yuval Noah Harari which tells us about how human beings developed and grew through millennia. Besides, it also partly explains certain causes of our current issues regarding society, politics, and psychology.

It was George, my American friend, who gave me the book as a gift on my birthday 2 years ago. You know I was overjoyed when I saw him holding the book before handing it to me because I was pretty interested in books, especially those of society, history topics. I would say George was such a clever man who knows what is meaningful to me and I’ve always been thankful for what he has done for me.

In my opinion, this was the most precious birthday gift I’ve ever received because it shows how much George appreciates me for my willingness to learn and to absorb knowledge. More than that, thanks to the information in this book, I’ve become more intelligent and stayed calm when coping with some life issues like career crises, relationship conflicts, or even generation disagreements.

So, those are the reasons why I want to talk about this book in this part. Thank you for your listening

Part 3:

1. Do people love receiving free gifts?

Yes, I think that is an absolute fact and nobody can argue. That is why on some special occasions like Tet Holiday or Christmas, we can see many shops and malls offering promotions and free gifts for their customers.

3.2. Do you think people would value things more when they buy them?

Yes, this is true to me because the things that we buy with our money are our hours of work and continuous effort. It is us who know exactly how hard it is to earn so we will treasure the things we buy. If it was a free gift from someone, we will never truly understand its value nor appreciate it.

3.3. Do people buy things without looking at the price?

Some people do and some people don’t. If we are struggling day by day to make ends meet, price matters and we would never want to waste a single penny on expensive stuff. On the contrary, there are many people out there who were born on a money hill and who don’t have to think of their daily meals. Those people will spend their money like blank papers so the price doesn’t make them hesitate when paying for costly merchandise.

3.4. Why do companies give free gifts to people? Do you think that it is some kind of a trick?

I do not think free gifts are a trick. Companies give free gifts to their customers because that is a part of their marketing campaign to promote their product as well as trigger customers’ demand. As a customer, I am always happy to be given something for free instead of doubting the shop’s inner motive. As a company’s representative, I feel so proud of myself to have brought joy and satisfaction to my customers. So, giving and receiving gifts is a win-win situation.
