To be honest, I have received so many clothes as gifts; however, if I need to talk about one today, it will have to be my tailor-made blazer my mom gave me.

When I became an official employee after a probationary period, my mum told me that I should look the part in the workplace, that I cannot go for casual jeans and a T-shirt anymore. So she decided to ask a tailor to make me something as a gift, which was a stunning camel-colored women’s ‘80s-inspired blazer. I don’t often go for an understated color because my skin is quite fair, you know. I was a bit self-conscious when I first put it on; however, when I saw how great it complemented my slim cigarette trousers and dark maroon heels, I couldn’t have been happier with it.

My mum really got me, she knew my taste. I wanted an elegant and professional blazer, so she asked the tailor not to go for fancy bells and whistles. It was all about the silhouette which emphasized my skinny body. I love how the blazer embraced my body and showed off my curves. The thing that I loved the most about the blazer was definitely the padded-shoulder which are very nice and bold. Those shoulders gave me life, you know. When I wore that jacket on, I looked like a young and professional business woman.

The way I see it, clothes are an extension of yourself, they can reflect your personality and like Rachel Zoe used to say “style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”.

The blazer was amazing; sadly, I only had one occasion to wear it even to this day. Because of the pandemic, I only have the chance to attend online meetings. Every project I attended, every meeting I had were through a screen.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to wear the blazer again one day as the situation in Hanoi seems to have subsided, and I can’t wait to turn up to work wearing it again.
