A law that was introduced in my country and that I thought was a very good idea is the Plastic Bag Ban. This law was introduced by the Ministry of Environment in 2019 as a measure to combat plastic pollution and protect the environment.
The law prohibits the use of single-use plastic bags in all retail stores, supermarkets, and shopping centers. It was introduced by the government under the leadership of the then Minister of Environment, who recognized the urgent need to address the growing problem of plastic waste. The decision was driven by the alarming statistics that showed the massive amount of plastic waste generated every year, much of which ended up in landfills, rivers, and oceans, causing significant harm to wildlife and ecosystems.
The law was officially implemented in January 2020, following a year-long campaign to raise awareness among the public and businesses about the importance of reducing plastic waste. The government provided alternatives, such as biodegradable bags and encouraged the use of reusable shopping bags.
