II. Samples

1. Do you have a favourite cafe? Why? Why not?

Yes, I do have a favorite cafe. It’s a small, cozy place near my house called “The Coffee Bean.” I love it because of its warm atmosphere and the quality of their coffee. The staff is always friendly, and they know my usual order, which makes me feel valued as a customer. Additionally, they have a fantastic selection of pastries and desserts, making it a perfect spot for both working and relaxing.

2. Do you often go to cafes by yourself? Why? Why not?

I do occasionally go to cafes by myself. I find it a great way to have some personal time to read a book or catch up on some work. The ambiance of a cafe, with its gentle background noise and aroma of coffee, can be very soothing and conducive to productivity. Also, it’s a nice change of scenery from working at home.

3. What do you think helps to make a cafe very popular? Why?

Several factors contribute to a cafe’s popularity. First and foremost, the quality of the coffee and food is essential. People are drawn to places where they know they can get a consistently good cup of coffee. Secondly, the atmosphere plays a significant role; a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment can attract more customers. Lastly, excellent customer service is crucial. Friendly and efficient staff can enhance the overall experience, encouraging repeat visits and positive word-of-mouth recommendations.

4. Why do some people prefer cafes that are part of large chains, rather than small, local cafes?

Some people prefer large chain cafes because of the consistency they offer. These chains have standardized their products and services, so customers know exactly what to expect regardless of the location. This reliability can be comforting, especially for those who travel frequently. Additionally, large chains often have loyalty programs and offer conveniences like mobile ordering, which can be attractive to busy individuals. However, this doesn’t mean that small, local cafes don’t have their own unique appeal.
