Sample Answer: Band 8

The provided bar charts depict Internet usage across different age groups in Australia for three distinct purposes during the years 2010 and 2011.

In summary, it’s evident that emailing stood out as the most prevalent online activity among residents, with a clear inverse relationship between age and social media usage.

Between 2010 and 2011, roughly two-thirds of Australians engaged in sending and receiving emails, while just over or under half of the population utilized the Internet for bill payments and social media.

Notably, there was a similar trend in the proportions of users for online transactions and emailing. Approximately 80% of senior citizens (those aged over 65) employed the Internet for these purposes, with the 40-60 age group coming in at a close second. In contrast, young adults (aged 18-25) had the lowest participation rate at 60%.

In the case of social media usage, nearly all individuals in the 18-25 age bracket in Australia were active on social networking platforms. This percentage dropped by approximately 15% and 30% among the subsequent two age groups, 26-40 and 40-60, respectively. Among those over 65, only a quarter were engaged in social media, whereas 40% of the 60-65 age group were active users.
