Model Answer Band 8
The diagram illustrates the transformation of Newtown Theater from 2000 to the present day. Overall, it is evident that the theater has undergone significant redevelopment, with the most striking modifications occurring on the eastern side of the building.
In 2000, visitors entered the theater from the south, where a foyer led directly to a stage facing 400 audience seats. To the left of the entrance were a coatroom and a toilet, while the ticket office was situated on the opposite side. At the northeastern corner, there was a refreshment area. Surrounding the theater, a landscaped park with numerous trees provided an outdoor recreational space.
At present, the theater has experienced extensive changes. The park has been completely removed, with the land repurposed for expansion. Both the main building and the stage have been enlarged considerably. All auxiliary rooms have been relocated to the left of the stage, streamlining the internal layout. The entrance and foyer have been shifted to the eastern side of the site, accompanied by the addition of a new entry point. Furthermore, a modern restaurant has been constructed in the northeast corner, replacing the former refreshment area.
In summary, Newtown Theater has evolved from a modest venue surrounded by greenery into a larger, more modern facility, with a strong emphasis on expanded space and improved visitor amenities.
