Sample Answer

On the first day of a month in the lunar calendar, my family always visits Vi Lai restaurant as we have a tradition of eating vegetarian food. Although I don’t remember where exactly it is located, I think it’s around Ly Thuong Kiet street.

The food there is excellent as the vegetables are prepared in different ways. One of my favorite appetizers is the mushroom soup which contains ingredients like chestnuts or bottom mushrooms. It’s a little bit salty, blended with a light sweetness. After that, when my family moves on to the main dish, we often order the signature salad there. The components like pickled radish, gong cai vegetable, and lotus petiole are nicely mixed with a combination of sourness and sweetness.

Another dish that I’m pretty much into is the bamboo shoot rolls there. I can see the thin slices of the bamboo shoot wrap fillings including tofu and lotus roots. When the dish is served, the fried rolls look mouth – watering and all of the members do enjoy this.

Apart from the food in this restaurant, the employees are also professional as they never let us wait for more than 2 minutes, even on their busiest day, so I do appreciate them a lot. Furthermore, when we first experienced the service, the employees gave my family a lot of useful advice on what dishes we should eat together, which is the determinant that makes me want to come back.

Personally speaking, if anyone asks me about a place to eat vegetarian food, I will recommend Vi Lai restaurant to them as the quality is superb.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Restaurant

1. Why do people like to eat in a restaurant?

When people often have meals at home, going to a restaurant is a way of spending time out. Others think that since different places have distinct recipes to cook one dish, it’s a rewarding experience to give it a go for a new style of cooking.

2. What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of eating at home compared to eating out?

One noticeable benefit of having meals at home is that people can prepare food together, especially at important gatherings. Most of the time, this is the time for people to catch up with each other. Also, the price is much cheaper compared to eating outside. However, when it comes to cleaning, especially for a party, I would say it is quite distressing to wash a heap of dirty dishes.

3. Do you think bigger restaurants tend to be better than small ones?

In some cultures, I don’t think this idea is correct. For example, in Vietnam, vendor stores make this country’s cuisine unique. People would not choose a five-star restaurant to eat traditional food like vermicelli with grilled pork. So, fancy restaurants are not always superior to the cheap food stalls on the streets.
