The bar chart compares computer ownership by education level in 2002 and 2010.
Overall, the proportion of students owning a computer grew substantially in all education groups in the latter year. Of a particular note is the positive correlation between one’s educational background and access to a computer.
Focusing on the largest figures first, computer ownership among postgraduates was record high in both years, at 75% and 90% respectively. Slightly smaller percentages were recorded for Bachelor’s degree students, with roughly 20% more of them owning a computer in 2010 than in the former year (90% and 70%). Even though just over a half of college undergraduates had a computer in 2002 (55%), their size rose by about a third eight years later.
Though accounting for a relatively small figure, the proportion of high school students who owned a computer soared in 2010. While it made up a mere 15% in 2002, it had grown by a fifth by the latter year (35%). Similarly, the figure for high school graduates virtually doubled, reaching about 60% in 2010.
